Yesterday I realized a new option in my Google Hosted Apps:
Google Sites is the easiest way to make information accessible to people who need quick, up-to-date access. People can work together on a Site to add file attachments, information from other Google applications (like Google Docs, Google Calendar, YouTube and Picasa), and new free-form content. Creating a site together is as easy as editing a document, and you always control who has access, whether it’s just yourself, your team, or your whole organization. You can even publish Sites to the world. The Google Sites web application is accessible from any internet connected computer.

So this is the end. The end of the Compact Disc. At least in my home. Tonight I finished ripping the last few CDs left on my desk. I did that work continiously the last months while doing some serious work in my homeoffice. I did that job with much more enthusiasm since SONOS came into my life. Music is now completely digital, even in my car with an iPod dock. I don´t play any CD anymore.
Many years ago I sold my turntable equipement. I sold lots of vinyl on ebay. And made unexpected money with it. But what about the CDs? I guess there is no market for it. Life is digital now. And the SONOS makes it so easy to cope with that. So good bye, dear CD.
Since I installed Notes 8.0.1 I get reminded of my calendar entries again and again.
Why? Because IBM changed the order of buttons in the alarm popup! “Snooze” is now on top. “Done” is second. I have no idea why they changed it. I got used to it for years now. I always clicked on the first button.
Today we hosted our anual “Lotusphere Comes To Berlin” event. It was a big success, more attendees than last year, good speakers, interesting discussions – and a broadband internet connection for downloading todays release of Lotus Notes 8.0.1 which was announced yesterday. Just in time for our event.
So I downloaded the 420 MB package “C19U1EN”, the Lotus Notes 8.0.1 Win32 client. Tried to install it. Failed.
“The upgrade you are attempting is not supported.”
I obviously tried to install Lotus Notes Client 8.0.1 only, and this is not supported if you have Client, Admin and Designer 8 preinstalled. I don´t understand why I can not upgrade this way, but anyway: So I looked for the “All Clients” package in the software download section at IBM. But there is no “All Clients” download.
Solution: Download another 462 MB “IBM Lotus Domino Designer 8.0.1 for Windows XP and Vista English (C19U0EN)”. It contains NOT only the Designer – even if it is labeled this way. This file contains Lotus Notes and Admin client. Who labels this stuff at IBM?

Gestern abend war wieder einer der Abende, an denen ich mich frage, warum ich es nicht öfter ins Theater schaffe. Man sagt dem Herrn Thalheimer zwar nach, dass er die Stücke in seinen Inszenierungen immer auf die selbe Art und Weise in ein 90 Minuten Raster preßt, die Akteure immer auf die gleiche bedeutungsschwere Art mit ihrer schweren Vergangenheit um den Hals herummarschieren läßt. Mag sein, aber ich fand es großartig und bewegend.
Ibsens “Wildente” hat ein grandioses Bühnenbild erhalten, sie ist kühl durchinszeniert, die Schauspieler steuern haltlos auf das tragische Ende zu. Ein schönes Lehrstück über Lebenslügen und den Gutmenschen, der stets das Gute will und das Böse schafft. Und ein bewegendes Kinderschicksal, das zwischem den Irrsinn der Erwachsenen konsequent zermahlen wird.
Nach zuletzt einem enttäuschenden Julius Cäsar hat sich nun wieder mal für mich gezeigt, was für großartige Theater wir in Berlin haben. Hingehen und anschauen!

Nicht nur dass es mir langweilig geworden ist mit dem Facebook. Jetzt fängt Facebook auch noch an zu nerven. Warum ich nicht mal wieder Leute vergleiche? Wieso ich keine neuen Gadgets habe? Und jetzt auch: warum ich so langsam lese.
Stimmt aber gar nicht. Bin nach der fesselnden, aber auch anstrengenden Lektüre über das ReichdesBösen mit dem “Weltensammler” in andere Welten getaucht. Durchaus lesenswert, übrigens. Blieb allerdings gerade im letzten Teil etwas hinter meinen Erwartungen zurück, in dem Richard Burton immer mehr als Figur verblasste.
So, jetzt aber erstmal diese ganzen Facebook-Newsletter abbestellen. Oder gleich die Applikationen rausschmeißen, die nerven.
Die gegenseitigen Beschimpfungen der Herren Lobo und Sixtus bei Twitter zu lesen ist immer wieder eine große Freude. Jetzt gibts das auch als Farbfernsehen.
Syncing contacts with external adress books is still a mess with Lotus Notes – as it is with external calendars. XING provides a plugin that imports contacts into Lotus Notes Personal Adress Book, but these contacts will not stay synced. Other social networking site like LinkedIn or Plaxo don´t offer any service for Lotus Notes.
Today I was asked if we would like to test and sell ViCo for Lotus Notes which lets you sync your Personal Adress Book with multiple social networks simultaneously. It is early code, I had some troubles, but it seems to work good. It works with my Facebook, LinkedIn and Plaxo account. It synchronise contacts with your Personal Address Book, load multiple networks with a single request and merges contact details.
Unfortunatly they are not allowed to integrate XING, so at this point it is nearly useless for me and most of my customers – at least in Germany XING is the market leader. As I was told this is not a technical problem. So where exactly is the problem, XING?
Zwar schon älter, aber wenn man Buzzword gestählt mit vielen easy to use Lösungen, die alle keine rocket science sind, aus Orlando heimkehrt, dann ist man schon froh, nicht im Klosett Loop zu landen

Sprachlich, grammatikalisch und inhaltlich ein Meisterstück, was das Unternehmen mit deutschem Firmensitz da rausschickt. Gut, dass wir mit dieser Lösung auch morgen noch unsere Mails aus der ‚Untersuchungshaft’ entlassen können.
Nachdem die Lokführer das halbe Land lahmgelegt haben mit den Argumenten “Wir sind wichtig, ohne uns geht nix, wir haben auch ein Cockpit aber kein Pilotengehalt, und im übrigen wollen wir viel” überlegen sich das auch andere Berufsgruppen.
So zum Beispiel heute die Berliner Lokal-Piloten von der BVG. Trotz 13 Jahre Beschäftigungssicherheit will man es mal einfach mit 12% versuchen. Außerdem ist man auch wichtig, wie man heute sieht. Die Hälfte meiner Mitarbeiter versucht sich irgendwie zum Dienst durchzuschlagen, die andere Hälfte bleibt lieber gleich zu Hause.
Kein Wunder also, wenn auch die Admins denken: Ohne uns läuft nix. Kein Mail geht mehr raus ohne uns. Wir haben viel Verantwortung. Und wir wollen viel.
