Bin erst jetzt reichlich spät über „Inception – The App“ gestolpert – und begeistert. Die Inception App nimmt Geräusche aus dem Umfeld auf und baut daraus gmeinsam mit Teilen der Filmmusik eine „dreamworld“, eine Geräuschkulisse, die einen direkten Bezug zum Umfeld hat. Es gibt verschiedene Traumwelten, die je nach Bedingung freigeschaltet werden. Für einige der Traumwelten muss man zu bestimmten Uhrzeiten zuhören, für andere muss man sich schnell bewegen – und neulich im Zug gab es dann den Travelling Dream:

Enter this dream by inducing your dreamworld and travelling over 30 mph. This dream listens to your surroundings and finds melodies to imitate. It turns whatever vehicle you are traveling in into a meditative instrument.

Das ganze ist sehr faszinierend. Bin nun seit einiger Zeit mit den In-Ear Phones und dieser App unterwegs und nehme die Dinge um mich herum auf ganz neue Weise wahr. Hörbefehl!

T-Mobile Tarife – 2. Generation

Gerade Telekommunikationsanbieter haben die Eigenschaft, die Stammkundschaft wie den letzten Dreck zu behandeln. Man hat sie mit einem 24 Monats Vertrag geködert – und nun sollen sie mal schön zahlen.

Die wenigsten Anbieter informieren über Tarifneuerungen, die eventuell günstigeres Telefonieren im eigenen Netz erlauben würden. Eine „Tarifautomatik“ kenne ich eigentlich nur von eplus – ob es die noch gibt, weiß ich gar nicht mehr. Früher wurde man jedenfalls dann immer in den dem eigenen Telefonverhalten entsprechenden günstigsten Tarif gebucht.

Aber ich bin ja nunmal bei T-Mobile. Wegen legalem iPhone halt so. Nun saß mir vor einiger Zeit ein Freund gegenüber, stolzer iPhone-Besitzer, und sagt: Isch habe Flatrate. Ich sach: Ach nee, gibts das jetzt? Klar, sagt der.

Ich leg also los mit der T-Mobile Firmenkundenbetreuung:

Auf meine dann schon etwas unflätige Antwort, dass ich ja nun deutlich genug kundgetan habe, dass ich endlich einen günstigeren Tarif will, gab es bis heute keine Antwort.

Irgendwie zwingt einen der Magenta-Laden förmlich dazu, sich beim nächsten Italien-Urlaub ein entsperrtes iPhone zu holen und ins BASE-Netz zu hängen.

Nein, schwimmen waren wir heute nicht. Aber Schlittschuhlaufen mit Trailguru for iPhone über den wunderbar zugefrorenen See. Funktioniert prima, Track wird gleich hochgeladen, nur muß es halt immer im Vordergrund laufen. Schönes Spielzeug für Jogging und Wandern.



Wrapi-do

This is what I have been looking for so long: The one and only way of headphone wrapping.

Here’s how it works: Pretend you’re at a Def Leppard concert and make the devil horns with your left hand. (Don’t pretend you don’t know what I mean — middle and ring fingers bent and held down by the thumb, index and pinky extended.) Tuck the buds underneath the middle and ring fingers to secure them and use your devil horns as posts around which to loop the cord. (Some people advocate a figure-eight wrap, but I find a simple loop works fine.) Leave a couple inches of cord at the end. Slide the loop off the devil horns, and wrap the remaining cord around the middle of the loops, creating a little bundle. Thread the plug end through the loop opposite the buds and give it a gentle pull to tighten the bundle. This little package now fits neatly in your pocket, is almost entirely tangle proof, and unravels with ease.

Perfect. I just received a new pair of headphones from Apple a few days ago. So this will gonna help me keeping them for a few more months.


Sonos Updates

Sonos updated to software version 2.7 – and turned my iPhone into a much better looking Desktop Controller. As far as I can see all features from the desktop controller are available on the iPhone too. Great News!

One of the best news in this software package is the last.fm integration I have waited for so long. You can now play your last.fm radio stations, and Sonos scrobbels your music and transfers the songlist to update your profile. Perfect. Thats what I wanted.

… dass ich nicht auf dieses Telefon gewartet habe. Mein Gott ist das häßlich – und offenbar seit über zwei Jahren wider besseres Wissen unverändert. Da lebe ich doch lieber mit den kleinen Unzulänglichkeiten des schönen iPhones.





iPhone won’t charge

iPhone Charging Not Supported

iPhone 3G battery life is poor. I turned off GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth now. Finally my idea was to charge the iPhone in my Audi’s built-in docking station while driving. Does not work. See screenshot above. The iPod connector is not a supported device.

This is more than annoying. Says Volker. Me too.



iPhone – my first 24 Hours

These are my first 24 hour remarks for my iPhone 3G.

What I like:

  • The iPhone feels great in your hand. And it looks good – the coolest mobile device ever.
  • User experience is the best I have ever had on a mobile device – and I had a lot of devices.
  • Browsing the web is also the best I ever experienced on a mobile device
  • PIM Apps are very easy to use – I like!
  • App Store: Great idea, installed many usefull app.

    • What I don´t like:

  • Battery life is the worse I can remember of any mobile devices I had. How bad is this! Within 8 hours the battery lost 3/4 of its power. No WIFI on. No Bluetooth. Not one phone call! And the battery is red. I know, I have to turn off GPS and 3G, but hey: this is an iPhone 3G!
  • No Copy&Paste? Can this be true? Maybe I missed something.
  • The keyboard: I like the idea, but I was not able to type any word without having to correct it or let the iPhone suggest the right spelling. It takes me double time to type an email compared to a Blackberry Pearl – and I am not talking about a full keyboard device like the Blackberry Bold. Using the visual keyboard in landscape mode would probably help hitting the right key, but this seems to be not supported.

    • And finally syncing. I am still a Windows user. I have still most of my PIM data in Lotus Notes. I don´t want to complain about the bad iPhone support in Notes again. But as a user of Google Apps I expected my iPhone to support the PIM data I am holding there.

  • Mail: No problem. Enabled IMAP, works fine.
  • Calendar? Nope. So I tried NuevaSync, a service that uses the iPhone´s Exchange connectivity to sync Google Calendar. It seems to work.
  • Contacts: Tried to sync with my google account. Results are terrible. Still have to find out why field mapping is so bad. Reimported my contacts to my Google Apps account, iPhone did not pick up any of the new contacts. Google does provide a real bad import routine, and iPhone does not sync properly. So this is useless for me now.

    • Will further look into this the next days.

    Gestern habe ich mich entschlossen, dem ersten Drang nicht nachzugeben. Ich will zwar ein iPhone 3G, und zwar jetzt – aber T-Kunde wollte ich dennoch nicht werden.

    Spreeblick erinnert mich heute daran, wie richtig diese Entscheidung ist.

    Ich hatte einen Grund, warum wir am Anfang der D-Netz Zeit sofort zu Mannesmann gingen. Ich hatte einen Grund, warum wir mit meinem Unternehmen sofort zum ersten privaten Festnetzanbieter migrierten. Und es war der gleiche Grund, warum ich auch privat sofort als es möglich war den Festnetzanbieter gewechselt habe.

    Der Grund war niemals Geld. Es ging um die Arroganz des ehemaligen Monopolisten mit dem großen T, die ich nicht noch fördern wollte.

    Schade. Ich hätte auch T-Kunde werden können. Aber Besserung scheint nicht in Sicht.

    […] Wie Du sicherlich weißt, vetreiben wir gerade massenhaft das iphone. Einige unserer Firmenkunden haben natürlich immer noch Lotus Notes im Einsatz und wünschen sich eine sync möglichkeit zwischen Notes und iPhone.

    Nein, wir haben immer noch nichts im Köcher, was wir wirklich empfehlen können.

    Übermorgen geht es offiziell los, das große Unboxing hat schon begonnen, und ich verfolge nur noch kopfschüttelnd, wie ein Unternehmen nach dem anderen eine -> solche Lösung bauen wird, weil sie leider „noch“ Lotus Notes im Einsatz haben. Was dann folgt, kann man sich lebhaft ausmalen.

    Wieso IBM immer noch keine Lösung parat hat? Unklar. Wieso IBM meint, Apple müßte etwas tun? Arrogant. Warum man nicht den großen IBM Mobility-Partner RIM ein wenig zwingt, einen Blackberry-Client für das iPhone zu bauen? Ignorant. Selber hat IBM die Mobility-Entwicklung komplett verschlafen. Es herrscht Silo-Denken und alle haben die Scheuklappen auf. Das dürfte ein interessantes Lehrstück werden, wie solche als lächerlich wahrgenommenen Entscheidungen über Business Kasper Spielzeuge massiv Marktanteile im Messaging Markt verschieben können.

    From a recent conversation with another IBM business partner:

    If all those people who told me the last days they will purchase a next generation iPhone really do it – we will have a serious problem integrating that stuff into our customers Lotus Domino environment…

    Fully agree. That will raise many unwanted questions for us too. I already had those questions because many executives already have an iPhone and want to use it for business.

    Nobody can say we have not been warned.

    The beauty of an iPhone. The power of a Blackberry. Funny claim. Replaced my current Vodafone Today theme with the „Today Version“ of bPhone – and it looks brilliant on my Pearl II.

    But I would rather have an iPhone with a Blackberry client instead 😉
